The Rules of Compounce Ball
- The game is played with two receptacles (garbage or recycling) set a fixed distance of 222.4 inches apart from each other and a standard-issue 34mm SuperBall. Each player must stand behind the receptacle, and cannot stand equal to or in front of said receptacle. The player is free to lean over the receptacle and initiate his/her throw as long as both feet are firmly planted behind it.
- Either player shall commence play with the first throw. In the case of a challenge match, the challengee may choose to shoot first or select a side. The players will take turns throwing (in an alternating fashion) until play is complete or one player collapses from exhaustion (which is considered a forfeit and the player who remains standing is awarded the victory).
- Scoring is simple. The player will receive 1 point per bounce in those throws with eventually land in the receptacle. No points are deducted for missed throws, and throws which enter the receptacle and then exit the receptacle by way of rebound are still considered successful throws.
- Play is complete when a player achieves 5 points (or more) on his/her last throw and also exceeds the score of his/her opponent by more than 2 points (i.e. "win by 2"). For example, a score of 6-5 is not a completed game, whereas a score of 5-2 is a completed game (pending "desperation throw" — see below).
- Once a winning score if achieved, the other player has one "desperation throw" in which to counter that winning throw. He/she must score enough points with his/her throw to be within two points or less of his/her opponent. If successful, both players will continue with the match until either player exceeds their opponent by 2 or more points again. Another desperation throw is thrown to try and continue the match, and the process is repeated.
